Author Candy Van Dam and Katie Day with Almost Home Canine Rescue joined Dakota News Now to tell us more about the book and its impact.
“I have a rescue dog, and she came from Almost Home. I adopted her about six or seven years ago. After that, I just loved her to pieces, and I thought I wanted to help rescue dogs. I wrote this book a while ago, and I found a great illustrator to illustrate it. A local illustrator, Mike Dowling, and he was all in. He loves dogs too,” said Van Dam.
“It’s a book about becoming. It starts out with all grey pages, all black and white pages. It’s about a dog who has no name, no home, and no family. And that’s what she wants most of all. So it starts out, everything is grey, and as she is rescued, her life changes, and she gets food, water, a place to stay, but she really wants that family.”
